Yes. In Tamil too தங்கம் (തങ്കം) is pure gold. 24 carat. நகைத் தங்கம் (jewellery gold) is usually 22 carat (in India), but elsewhere it could be 10-18 carats normally. The element in the periodic table is தங்கம். It is also synonymous with பொன் (pon), but the word has additional meanings of generic term for any metal.
