വിക്കിനിഘണ്ടുവിൽ തിരുത്തലുകൾ നടത്തുന്നത് താങ്കൾ ആസ്വദിക്കുമെന്ന് ഞാൻ കരുതുന്നു. താങ്കളെപ്പറ്റിയുള്ള വിവരങ്ങൾ‍ ഉപയോക്താവിനുള്ള താളിൽ‍ നൽകാവുന്നതാണ്‌. സംവാദ താളുകളിൽ ഒപ്പ് വെക്കുവാനായി നാല് "ടിൽഡ" (~~~~)ചിഹ്നങ്ങൾ ഉപയോഗിക്കുക. സ്വന്തം പേരും തീയതിയും സമയവും താനേ വന്നുകൊള്ളും. എന്നാൽ ‍ലേഖനങ്ങളിൽ അപ്രകാരം ഒപ്പുവെക്കാതിരിക്കാൻ ശ്രദ്ധിക്കുക. മറ്റ് ഉപയോക്താക്കളോട് സം‌വദിക്കാൻ അവരുടെ സം‌വാദത്താളിൽ താങ്കളുടെ സന്ദേശം എഴുതാവുന്നതാണ്. ഒരു നല്ല വിക്കിനിഘണ്ടു അനുഭവം ആശംസിക്കുന്നു.

തമിഴ് വാക്കുകൾ

Dear Selva, thanks for adding Tamil words. Keep up the good work. If you want, you can keep the Tamil word definitions really simple, pointing them to the equivalent Malayalam words. For example, ஆனை could just have just the Malayalam transcription and a single meaning ആന. You could avoid the image, biological definition etc. saving a lot of work. This is a suggestion, of course. Thanks Keral8, I appreciate you comments and suggestions. I'm reading the Malayalam descriptions SLOWLY (sometimes with transliterations) from Malayalam Wikipedia and other sources and then adding just one or two lines(not violating any copyright issues). The scientific terminology was quite unnecessary, I agree, but in my cut and paste job, I couldn't modify or simplify. I know I can simply give a link to Malayalam word and move on. synonyms

Hi Selva,

The style that I have been following to define synonyms and non-Malayalam words have been like this.

1. If a word is a synonym of a commonly used word and means exactly the commonly used word, I just add the basic definition in the page for synonym and then use the detailed definition with images and all the translations in the definition page for commonly used page. eg: I just define മാർജ്ജാരൻ as പൂച്ച, but define പൂച്ച in detail.
2. For words other than those in Malayalam, I use similar as above. eg: சிங்கம் and സിംഹം

The logic behind this has been to make it easier to bring improvements to a definition at one place and keep the definition of complex words simple. If you feel this style could be improved, please let us know.

Second, you can add synonyms like in page - പൂച്ച. Each item in numbered list convey a different meaning for the same word. So Synonyms are placed under ====പര്യായപദങ്ങൾ==== --Jacob.jose^(talk) 00:55, 19 ഓഗസ്റ്റ്‌ 2010 (UTC)

I think I understanding your point, especially your point that it [is] easier to bring improvements to a definition at one place definitions can be at one place so that it can be improved. But how do I know which is a primary word and which are synonyms ? In any case, I will seriouslu try to follow whatever the practices are here at ml wikt. Feel free to correct me. My first contribution of 50 words :)

As of today, I've added 50 words to ml wikt. Out of which 13 are Malayalam words and the rest of them are Tamil words. I've added a few words, figures and expanded some entries slightly. I hope I've not made any huge errors. My first contribution of 100 words :)

As of today, August 29, 2010, I;ve added 101 words to ml wikt. Vast majority of them are Tamil words, but I've also added some 16 Malayalam words (!!). For almost all the words I've added figures and proper categories. I hope seasoned Wiktionarians would take a look and correct any mistakes. I don't know enough Malayalam to act more pro-actively. I wish to add a cagtegory called Tamil numbers (or Malyalam numbers etc.), but I don't know the plural form of സംഖ്യ number :) Nor could I add a definition to സംഖ്യ ! --C.R.Selvakumar^(talk) 18:39, 29 ഓഗസ്റ്റ്‌ 2010 (UTC)

In malayalam,

• duck = താറാവ്
• goose = വാത്ത
• swan = അരയന്നം, ഹംസം

No problem. In Tamil too taaraa (தாரா) is used. In fact among taaraa, தாரா, குள்ளத்தாரா, மணற்றாரா, ஆண்டத்தாரா, கண்ணாடித்தாரா, காட்டுத்தாரா are known. Among swan or annam, (அன்னம்), உன்னம், காளகம், எகின், ஓதி, ஓதிமம், காரன்னம், தூவி, பிணிமுகம், மென்னடை, வாவிப்புள் are some of varieties. The word வாத்து for duck is common. What you point out in Malayalam "goose = വാത്ത", would be known in Tamil as kaaTTuvaattu or kaaTTuttaaraa. I'll try to be as specific as I can.
